What LinkLens does

LinkLens is a Chrome extension that analyzes web pages linked from the page you are currently browsing. When you hover over a link, LinkLens fetches the content of that linked page in the background to estimate its read time, complexity, and content type.

This analysis happens entirely within your browser. No data about you, your browsing habits, or the pages you visit is ever sent to any external server operated by LinkLens.

Data we do NOT collect

LinkLens does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following on external servers:

โ€” Your identity or any personally identifiable information
โ€” Your browsing history or the URLs you visit
โ€” Which links you hover over or click
โ€” The content of pages you visit
โ€” Your IP address
โ€” Usage statistics or analytics of any kind

Data stored locally

LinkLens stores your preferences (such as hover delay, reading speed, and display options) using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API. This data is stored in your browser and may sync across your Chrome devices if you are signed into Chrome. This data never leaves your browser in a way that is accessible to LinkLens or any third party.

LinkLens also uses a temporary in-memory cache to store analysis results for pages you have hovered over during the current browsing session. This cache is cleared when you close the tab or browser.

Network requests

When you hover over a link, LinkLens makes a network request to fetch the content of that linked page. This request is made directly from your browser to the destination website โ€” the same request your browser would make if you clicked the link. LinkLens does not proxy, log, or intercept these requests in any way.

LinkLens does not make any network requests to servers operated by LinkLens.

Permissions

LinkLens requests the following Chrome permissions:

storage โ€” To save your settings locally in Chrome.
tabs โ€” To open the settings page in a new tab when requested.
host permissions (all URLs) โ€” To fetch and analyze the content of linked pages when you hover over them.

No permissions are used for any purpose beyond what is described above.
